Render and External Wall Insulation

Taylormade Facades makes lightweight architectural mouldings in our own factory in Aberdare, and we're approved applicators for render and external wall insulation systems from VPI, Weber, PRB and EWI Pro. Founded in 2003 on a plastering and rendering background, we can make the cornices, cills, window heads, quoins and bands, and apply the render or insulated finish around them, on homes, developments and commercial buildings across the UK.

That matters because the details are where facades usually go wrong: how far a cill projects past the finished wall, where the render stops against a moulding, how a band sheds water, and how rain is thrown clear of openings. When the firm that makes the mouldings also applies the render, those details are agreed once, at drawing stage, rather than sorted out on the scaffold.

Whether you're an architect specifying a scheme, a contractor looking for one package, or a homeowner planning to re-render, we'll look at the wall first and recommend the system that suits it.

Why one firm for the whole facade

One point of responsibility.

No gaps between the moulding supplier and the render contractor.

Mouldings and render detailed together.

We make the profiles and apply the render around them, so the junctions are designed as one.

One programme.

The profiles go to site with our team, ready to fit as the render goes on.

Approved systems.

Applied to the manufacturers' requirements by approved applicators.

Working with render contractors

We supply mouldings to render contractors across the UK. If you bring us a project, the client stays yours: we won't quote your client for render, EWI or any other work on that job. Tick "I'm a render contractor" on the enquiry form and we'll register the project to you.

Common questions

Which render is right for my house?

It depends on how the wall is built, its condition, how exposed it is and the look you want. Older solid-wall buildings generally need breathable lime-based finishes, while modern blockwork suits a wider choice of systems. We recommend a system after seeing the wall, not before.

Do you survey before quoting?

Yes. We check the wall for hollow or failing render, damp, cracking and movement, and look at the details around cills, eaves and openings. Any defects need putting right before a new finish goes on.

Where do you work?

Our rendering team works across South Wales and southern England, including Cardiff, Bristol, Plymouth and London. For projects combining rendering with our architectural mouldings, we work throughout the UK. Supply-only orders of our mouldings are delivered by pallet courier anywhere in the UK, whether or not we carry out the render.

Will I need planning permission?

Often not, but it depends where you are and how much the look of the building changes. Conservation areas, National Parks and Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty have stricter rules, listed buildings need listed building consent, and Building Regulations can apply to larger re-rendering and insulation work. We'll point out what may apply, but your local council has the final say.

Do you supply mouldings to other render contractors?

Yes. Our mouldings can be supplied basecoated, ready for finishing by others, or fully finished, with a lead time of typically 2–3 weeks from drawing approval.

How long does a job take?

It depends on the size of the building, the system, how much preparation the wall needs and the weather. Multi-coat renders and lime need curing time between coats, so they can't be rushed. We give a realistic programme with the quote.

What time of year can you render?

Most renders can't be applied in rain, in frost or below about 5°C, and need protecting from strong sun and drying wind. Spring to early autumn is the most reliable window, and we plan the work around the forecast.

Do I need scaffolding?

Scaffolding is normally provided by others. Where it's requested, we can include it in our quotation.

What affects the cost?

The wall area and access, how much preparation or removal is needed, the system and finish chosen, the number of openings and details, and whether mouldings or insulation are included. We price each job after a survey.
