Taylormade Facades completed private development — render facade with cornice, arched window and portico detailing

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the questions we hear most from architects, contractors and developers.

Are lightweight EPS mouldings actually strong and durable?

Yes — "lightweight" describes the EPS core, not the finished product. Each profile is manufactured under controlled conditions and factory-finished using an approved VPI polymer-modified coating system, ready for the final decorative finish — smooth, acrylic or stone-effect — to be applied directly over it, or for facing brickwork to be coursed in around it, depending on the substrate. This is the same trusted approach used across UK facades for decades. The lightweight EPS core is what allows profiles to be handled and fixed without cranes, and carries significantly reduced dead load compared with traditional cast-stone and precast alternatives — a manufacturing and installation advantage, not a compromise on the strength or durability of the finished, coated product.

What's the process from drawings to delivery?

It all runs in-house, start to finish. We develop a coordinated profile schedule from your GA drawings and section details, resolving junctions, returns and terminations before manufacture begins. Profiles are then CNC-cut at our Aberdare facility to precise tolerances, and each one is factory-finished using an approved VPI polymer-modified coating system, ready for the final decorative finish to be applied. From there we deliver nationwide — supply-only, or with full installation and site support, depending on what you need.

Which render systems are your profiles compatible with?

Our profiles are designed for integration with approved external render and façade systems — VPI is our preferred coating/render system. Get in touch with your render system details as part of your enquiry and we'll confirm compatibility at technical-submittal stage for your project.

How are your profiles fixed to the building?

Fixing method depends on the substrate, the size of the profile and its location on the elevation, and is confirmed for your specific project as part of our technical support. Smaller, lighter elements — such as window surrounds and string bands — are typically simple adhesive-fixed, while our Window Cills are fully bed-bonded to the substrate using the approved VPI polymer-modified basecoat, with sealant between the cill and window profile applied by others. Larger profiles, such as cornice sections, may require additional mechanical fixing to suit the substrate and loading involved. Full fixing details are set out on the product specification and drawing issued with your project, giving your design team and site installers a clear, project-specific method to work to.

Can you colour match our render or finish?

Yes. We colour match to natural stone finishes and acrylic renders, and our smooth polymer finish can be matched to any RAL colour reference — giving architects full specification flexibility and ensuring the finished mouldings sit seamlessly alongside the rest of the elevation's render or stonework.

Can we specify a premium, longer-life paint finish?

Yes. Emperor Paint is confirmed compatible with our specified VPI coating build-up and is available as an alternative decorative finish alongside our standard VPI smooth, acrylic and stone-effect finishes. Let us know at enquiry stage and we'll confirm current guarantee terms and pricing for your project.

What are your current lead times?

Lead time depends on the scale and complexity of your order, and is confirmed in writing at quotation stage — giving main contractors a clear, reliable window to build into the programme. Get in touch with your drawings and we'll come back with a firm delivery date for your project.

Do you install, or is it supply-only?

Both. We offer supply-only for contractors and developers who prefer to install with their own teams, and a full installation service where we handle fitting as well. Let us know which you'd prefer when you enquire and we'll quote accordingly.

Do you work from our architect's drawings?

Yes — this is our standard process. Send us your GA drawings, elevations and section details — a CAD file isn't required to get started, a sketch with dimensions works too — and our technical team develops profiles engineered specifically for your project, rather than asking you to choose from a fixed catalogue. Junctions, returns and terminations are fully resolved before manufacture, and we come back with a technical submittal pack — shop drawings, section details and fixing specifications — for your approval before anything is made. For bespoke or one-off details, we can also produce a sample section for sign-off first.

Is there a minimum order?

No — there's no minimum order. Whether it's a single bespoke feature for a private residence or a full elevation package across a multi-plot development, every project gets the same level of technical support and manufacturing commitment.
